Tabeo

My mother got Becky one of these for Christmas. It is supposed to be the only and BEST kid friendly tablet on the market.

It fucking sucks and is poorly made.

Let me tell you why.

When we opened it up Christmas night, Brian started charging it and doing the registration (also setting up the parental controls...etc)

It took him 10 mins to complete the registration and about 15 (yes 15) minutes to download the preloaded apps. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, being a brand new item and such.

Becky started playing it that night and kept freezing. I think it happened 5xs (and no, I am not exaggerating) that night and a bunch of times over the next week. She also was complaining of it not charging right. Brian and I took it into our bedroom to see if she was doing something wrong.

She wasn't.

The slot where you plug the charger into was loose and wouldn't charge if you even moved the tablet a little bit. No biggie, just keep it in one place. All was well until last Friday....when it stopped charging.

Brian took a look at it (and keep in mind, it was in our bedroom for all but 2 hours a day) and the metal piece where the charger went into FELL OUT. I was not happy. At this point, we have had it for about 1 1/2 weeks.

So, we brought it back (with the credit card used). They found the purchase and they were going to give us a new one.....but they didn't have them in stock (figures). We ended up going to another Toys R Us, 20 mins away, and picking it up. While we were there, the customer service rep told us that people were returning the Tabeo because of it being slow and charging issues. So even if we didn't have the credit card, they would have given us a new one. Also, she told us that there was an update that needed to be downloaded and applied.

So we got the new one, set it up and download the update. What does it do? Frigging freeze. Brian reset it and was able to get it to take the update and delete alot of the unused files (because they took up 95% of the space).

All was well until this afternoon.

I was cleaning Becky's side of her room and saw her Tabeo on the ground, under a blanket. So I picked it up and placed it on her bed. I then picked it up to take downstairs (to charge because I was going to give it to her after I pick her up from school) and I noticed cracks on the screen. I took a closer look and it looked like she dropped it and the screen broke.

W.T.F. It says right on the website that the screen is supposed to be gorilla glass (which is very hard to break) and it looked like it fell from her platform bed (bed with drawers underneath it) onto a throw rug. No one was up in her room except me and I defiantly didn't step on it.

I dropped my cell phone (brand new smartphone) from a bigger height (off of my desk)and the glass didn't break. So please explain how it broke from a fall from a bed, close to the ground, broke the glass.

I am not happy. This product was almost $200 and supposed to be extremely child friendly. Which means, it should have survived being dropped from a bed onto a throw rug.

I am going to return it tomorrow and see if they can give me a new one or refund my mother's money.

It is safe to say that I will not reccomend the Tabeo to people. I would say get the Sony Galaxy, the Nook Color or the Kindle Fire if you want a tablet for smaller kids.

  1. Yikes! We got a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas, and Alex (3), has been playing with it a ton with no issues. We try to make him sit still when using it (he mostly watches videos or plays games on it), but he has dropped it with no problems.

    1. I have a Kindle Fire too, its been dropped by my kids quite a few times and I've had no issues with it. That's why I am so mad about the Tabeo. It should have held up.
